GULF OIL SPILL UPDATE: AUGUST 11, 2010:

“New” August 18: Enterprise Florida’s Stakeholders Council will host a Gulf Oil Spill: Business Assistance panel discussion with a BP Claims rep, SBA Loan rep and Small Business Bridge Loan rep on August 18th between 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in Coral Gables, Florida. For details email: lcox@eflorida.com

“New” August 10: Florida’s State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been moved down to a level 2 activation.

GULF OIL SPILL ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• July 29: BP awards $7 million to the Northwest Florida Travel Council for tourism marketing. The Governor requests an additional $43 million to complete the second round of tourism advertising.

• July 28: Kenneth Fienberg and his team will be ready to handle BP claims by the end of August, 2010.

• July 22: SBA adds additional counties for businesses to be eligible for SBA Disaster assistance loans: Monroe, Lee, Collier, Broward, Glades, Hendry and Miami-Dade.

• July 21: Executive order issued authorizing property appraisers to provide interim assessments of properties that may have declined in value due to the oil spill. Effective in the 26 counties declared as emergencies.

• July 20 – 23rd: Governor calls Special Session to address a constitutional amendment banning offshore drilling in Florida waters.

• July 15: BP confirmed the oil well has been capped. Close monitoring of the well will be conducted to ensure the cap holds.

• July 12: Governor holds a roundtable meeting, in Gulf Breeze Florida, with Kenneth Feinberg, independent administrator of the $20 billion escrow BP compensation fund. County commissioners, EDO’s, Chambers and Tourism directors were in attendance.

• June 30: Governor Crist secures U.S. Dept of Labor $7MM National Emergency Grant to provide employment-related assistance to dislocated Florida workers affected by the oil spill. The grant will be managed by AWI and released shortly. For information contact AWI: 877.362.5034.

• June 28: Department of Revenue (DOR) is offering, on a case-by-case basis, additional options/waivers to taxpayers impacted by the Gulf Oil Spill. For a listing of services available visit: http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/taxes/servicecenters.html

• June: Governor launches Florida Gulf Recovery Jobs Web site. Currently listing 12,000 open positions for oil spill recovery: www.floridagulfrecoveryjobs.com

• June 18: Governor released an extension, to August 28, 2010, for the declaration of emergency in 26 counties.

• June 16: President Obama met with BP and agreed on the creation of an Independent Claims Facility Fund (ICF) of $20 billion to be administered by Ken Feinberg: http://www.bp.com/genericarticle.do?categoryId=2012968&contentId=7062966

• June 3: Governor requests an additional $50MM, from President of BP America, to cover state and local costs of preparedness efforts.
 
• May 30: Governor signed MOU’s with eight Northwest Florida counties totaling $4.4MM for local tourism marketing efforts.

• US Dept of Commerce approves Florida’s Fishery Resource Disaster.

• BP provided a $100,000 grant through an MOU with Florida Foundation (formerly Volunteer Florida) to maintain a database for the regulation of volunteers.

• June 1: Governor Crist announced a new Visit Florida 90-day marketing campaign to reach nearly 500 million consumers.
